Více o knize

Luc Brisson's third edition of his classic study of the Timaeus is essential reading for all students of Ancient Philosophy. His close analysis of Plato's text yields a detailed and consistent view of the philosophy of the Timaeus. Very different from the piecemeal interpretations provided by other scholars, Brisson's detailed discussion of the most important interpretations put forward in Antiquity and in modern times gives the reader a good idea of the history of Platonism from the old Academy to the present day. His commentary provides an excellent introduction to the most important problems of Plato's philosophy, and especially to the vexed questions of Plato's account of the origin of the universe, of man and of society. The book was first published in 1974 and has been out of print for many years. This third edition contains many important changes, covering 80 pages, including corrigenda, addenda, revised indexes, a postface and an up-to-date bibliography of modern scholarship on the Timaeus.
