Organizations are often affected by individuals who display aggressive, bold, and manipulative behaviors, leading to a toxic work climate characterized by poor communication and low commitment. Such maladaptive behaviors have sparked interest in the dark side of personality within organizational studies, particularly the dark triad, which encompasses narcissism, psychopathy, and Machiavellianism. This research explores how the dark triad within teams impacts a firm's innovation performance. It contributes to existing literature by examining how individual dark triad traits influence team climate, how a toxic climate affects innovation-related factors like autopoiesis and international business ideas, and how these dynamics play out in emerging markets. Utilizing a mixed-method design, the study begins with qualitative in-depth interviews to enhance understanding of the team dark triad, followed by a quantitative analysis that aggregates data from team members rather than relying on individual input. Firm-level constructs are assessed through information from team leaders, with findings analyzed using structural equation modeling. Results indicate that team narcissism positively affects innovation performance, while team psychopathy has a negative impact, and team Machiavellianism shows no effect.
