Family change and intergenerational relations in different cultures

Více o knize

Modern industrial societies exhibit two significant phenomena in family sociology: the extension of the youth phase due to delayed entry into the workforce, and increased life expectancy resulting in families with four or five generations. This raises important sociological questions about family unity amidst growing vertical relationships and societal changes. Specifically, it explores whether families will maintain cohesion as a distinct group or if subsystems will emerge, leading to isolation among generations or individual family members. The potential for diminished interaction within the family unit, driven by the exclusivity of nuclear families, is also examined. This volume focuses on familial changes in Turkey, Poland, Spain, South Korea, and Germany, investigating how these shifts affect material and immaterial benefits transferred between generations. Additionally, it analyzes the role of religious traditions in family dynamics, considering their influence despite trends toward secularization.
