The Ford GT with chassis number 101 had a tumultuous career but was pivotal in Ford’s success at Le Mans in the late 1960s. This journey began with Henry Ford II’s ambition to win the prestigious race. After an unsuccessful attempt to acquire Ferrari in 1963, Ford decided to create its own sports car, leading to the legendary Ford GT. Within a year, two cars, including chassis 101, were brought to the Le Mans Test Weekend. This chassis was crucial for development and the GT's first official presentation. Unfortunately, during the test, Jo Schlesser lost control, resulting in a crash that destroyed chassis 101. Nearly fifty years later, collector Claude Nahum set out to recreate this iconic vehicle, achieving such authenticity that it won the best re-creation award at the 2016 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. In this large-format book, author Ed Heuvink chronicles Ford’s motorsport history, the significance of chassis 101, the 1964 racing season, and the GT40's later achievements. The book, limited to 999 numbered copies, features unseen images and comes in a slip-case, including a foreword by Henry Ford III and an introduction by Richard Attwood, making it a must-have for any Ford or sports car enthusiast.
