The question of economic justice has always been relevant, but currently it seems to be on everyone's lips. In his search for a just global economic order, Philipp Koch brings a consciously European Christian, Lutheran perspective into this essential debate. Thus, he discusses the question whether the indicative aspects of a market economy are compatible with the imperatives of Christian thought – are they perhaps intrinsically identical, or are they mutually exclusive by choice? For his study, the author traces the whole economic history from antiquity to the present day, tying in the respective economic theories of the times, and examines the concept of justice over the course of this history. On this basis, he teases out the strengths of Luther's reflections on economic ethics in respect of the current debate.
