Chalcone, an exceptional chemical entity of two aromatic or heteroaryl rings joined by a three carbon α, β-unsaturated carbonyl system, representing a class of flavanoids. Chalcone comprises a keto-ethylenic group and here upon reactive towards a number of reagents yielding a variety of heterocyclic compounds demonstrating remarkable biological activities. Because of the structural novelties and potent biological activity, the synthesis and modifications of novel chalcones have attracted much focus of researchers of medicinal chemistry in recent years.
