It is determined for personality to represent a pattern of distinguishable characteristics and relatively permanent traits giving both individuality and consistency to individual behavior. Influencing behavior are traits remaining relatively stable over time in individuals. The most popular of theories of personality belongs to Sigmund Freud. Freud contends the unconscious motives of the animalistic id and moralistic superego clash accounting for the conscious behavior as demonstrated by the ego. The object recognition theory of Melanie Klein stresses the first four to six months of life and its effect on personality. Alfred Adler believes the individual to consist of an internal locus of control and behaves in a manner in anticipation of the future.
