Sixteen-year-old Sveta lives in Berlin with her parents. When her cruel father falls from grace, he is demoted to a small town in the countryside and takes Sveta with him against her will. Left behind, her mother is unaware of Sveta's fate. In the bleak town of "Dunkeltann," Sveta's life becomes increasingly dreary until a life-changing encounter occurs.
