Death of the Vazir-Mukhtar is the first full translation into English of the Russian novel Smert' Vazir-Mukhtara by Yuri Tynianov, published in 1927-28. It tells the story of the last year in the life of Alexander Griboyedov, a diplomat and playwright in 1820s Russia, from being feted in St Petersburg to his death in Tehran at the hands of a mob.
