Exploring the potential integration of family group conferences into New Zealand's adult guardianship law, this paper examines the effectiveness of this decision-making model, currently applied in child welfare under the Children, Young Persons and Their Families Act 1989. It evaluates whether this collaborative approach could benefit adults who are unable to make autonomous decisions due to mental illness or intellectual disabilities, suggesting a shift towards more inclusive family involvement in guardianship matters.
