Set in the summer of 1903, this novel follows John Strock, a federal inspector investigating mysterious phenomena in the Eastern United States. As Strock attempts to apprehend Robur, he becomes a captive instead, leading to a dramatic conclusion involving a lightning strike that leaves Robur's fate ambiguous.
