God's Handmaiden

Set against the backdrop of the Crimean War, the narrative follows Gervase Howard, a young woman from a working-class background who becomes entangled in the lives of the wealthy. After losing her mother, she moves in with a noble family and develops feelings for their son, Davis, who is engaged to another. As Gervase becomes a companion to Florence Nightingale, she faces the challenges of war and class disparity. Their paths intersect again when Davis is injured, and Gervase must nurse him back to health, leading to unexpected revelations and perilous circumstances.
