Drawing on military records from both the Allies and Germans, it argues that the anticipated quick defeat of German forces was thwarted by Allied caution and German resilience. Translated from German, this work provides a fresh perspective on a crucial yet underexplored phase of World War II, highlighting the strategic challenges faced by the Allies.
