As he navigates a summer filled with impulsive adventures, he becomes entangled with a group of petty criminals and develops a romance with an older woman. However, his initial drive to escape diminishes as he gets caught up in the complexities of small-town life. When an old friend offers him a ride to California, Russell must decide whether to break free from his newfound connections and pursue his original goal.
