He highlights the potential for SFM to yield "win-win" outcomes, benefiting both the environment and poverty reduction. However, achieving these outcomes necessitates addressing market, policy, and institutional failures driving deforestation. The book advocates for a balanced approach that includes payments for ecosystem services and improved governance, emphasizing the urgency of current opportunities like REDD to protect remaining tropical forests effectively.
