Born into a wealthy family in London, Algernon Charles Swinburne emerged as a prominent poet and playwright, gaining fame with works like "Atalanta in Calydon" and "Poems and Ballads," which explored controversial themes. Despite a decline in popularity, he contributed significantly to literary criticism and produced notable poetry during his later years, largely under the influence of his friend Theodore Watts-Dunton.
