Twenty Years at Hull House

Co-founded by Jane Addams and Ellen Gates Starr in 1889, Hull House served as a vital settlement house for European immigrants in Chicago. By 1911, it expanded to 13 buildings and included a summer camp, the Bowen Country Club. Renowned for its innovative social, educational, and artistic programs, Hull House became a model for the settlement house movement, which flourished nationally, reaching nearly 500 locations by 1920. Its legacy highlights the importance of community support and integration during a time of significant immigration.
