Constructing National Identity in Canadian and Australian Classrooms

Focusing on the evolution of national identities during decolonization, the book examines educational policies in Ontario and Victoria, revealing how Britishness influenced identity until the late 1960s. It analyzes textbooks and curricula to show the portrayal of imperialism and the intertwining of religious education with Britishness. The shift towards multiculturalism marked a significant change, challenging assimilationist views and promoting equality in education. This work contributes to British World scholarship by highlighting ongoing identity struggles faced by educators and policymakers.
