Michael Jack Schmidt is celebrated as one of baseball's greatest third basemen, making a significant impact on the Philadelphia Phillies from 1973 to 1989. He led the team to five National League championship series and two World Series victories, earning twelve All-Star selections. Renowned for his power hitting, Schmidt ranks seventh all-time with 548 home runs and is also a defensive standout, winning ten Gold Gloves. A three-time N.L. Most Valuable Player, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995, his first eligible year.
