The paper examines the complexities of electoral systems in the context of Kyrgyzstan's political landscape. It highlights the lack of international standards for democratic electoral systems, allowing sovereign states to choose their own frameworks. However, this autonomy can lead to manipulation by incumbent politicians to maintain power. Despite significant changes to Kyrgyzstan's electoral system since its independence, the current system remains undemocratic. Following the 2005 opposition takeover, there were calls from civil society for constitutional and electoral reforms.
