Focusing on the economic dynamics of Marmara village in Hausaland, this study explores land, labor, credit, and trading institutions through fieldwork during contrasting economic periods. It presents a novel perspective on rural accumulation in a polygynous society, revealing how it mitigates inequality while fostering technical innovation. The analysis highlights a unique African non-capitalist accumulation model that prioritizes family expansion and social networks over capital acquisition, challenging traditional Marxian and New Institutional Economics frameworks.
