Selected research papers covering various aspects of computer networks are collected in this book, which is the result of an international conference of IFIP's Technical Committees TC6 and TC8. Theoretical and practical problems are addressed, in areas such as protocols, standards, special purpose LANs and network interconnections, distributed computing systems and messaging systems.
This book, containing 32 papers, covers the following major Protocol Implementation, Microsystems, Integrated Office Systems, Distributed Data Base, Local Area Networks, Performance Evaluation, Network Architecture, and Monitoring and Control. A great deal of attention has been paid in the papers to the description of the integrated office systems, microprocessor systems and local area networks. Some of the papers present concrete examples of different office systems and local area networks in a state of exploitation. Also considered are theoretical aspects of the performance evaluation of local networks, algorithm efficiency in networks with package switching, etc. Suggested are algorithms and methods for protocol implementation in various types, for setting up of distributed data base. The papers also offer solutions for a wide range of theoretical and practical problems, as well as analysis of the practical experience in the system. Future trends in the development of office automation systems are mapped out.
