Arion Golmakani ist ein amerikanischer Autor iranischer Abstammung, geboren in Teheran. Der Autor beschreibt seine Kindheit, die im Jahre 1956 anfängt, mit einfachen Worten aber sehr präzise. Er wird als kleiner Junge von seinen Eltern zurück gelassen. Er lebt ab seinem 3. Lebensjahr in Armut und Obdachlosigkeit in den Straßen eines der reichsten Städte des Iran, in Mashad. Er schreibt mit einfachsten Worten so ergreifend und ohne jede Sentimentalität, daß jede Seite des Buchs einen tagelang noch begleitet. Er nimmt die Leser mit in die 50er und 60er Jahre der Iranischen Kultur und in das Alltagsleben, dort wo das Leben noch viel traditioneller war. Er überlebt seine grausame Kindheit und immigriert mit 17 Jahren nach Amerika und erst nach 40 Jahren schreibt er das Buch Solacers. Danach ist er nie wieder in den Iran und in die Straßen seiner Kindheit zurückgekehrt
