A city composed of retired warships signify this new empire as a fascist state where Judith Gibson, having been a part of the Prospect project, struggles to find a balance between what she is and what she is meant to do for a nation under increasing levels of oppression, courtesy of its government. Dr Glynn Sharplin is the scientist in charge of developing the Version combat drone army, the direct advancement of the original pilot series that were engineered to create portals in order to traverse the vast distances between worlds. As they are deployed to replace an entire work force it becomes apparent that the Version - designed to protect the nation of Prospect - may yet have a dual purpose. Ologun Jowett returns to a world in desperation as humanity is on the fringe of extinction. A fourth world war seems imminent and Ologun intervenes in the only way he knows how.

      Between morality and reality, what will a man choose when all he knows is brutality? 2256: Ologun Jowett is convicted of carrying out a massacre and sent to the planet Deceiver to labour in its deep-sea mining facilities.
