    Lewis Henry Morgan byl průkopnický americký antropolog a sociální teoretik, uznávaný jako jeden z nejvýznamnějších sociálních vědců 19. století ve Spojených státech. Je proslulý svými pracemi o příbuzenských vztazích a sociální struktuře, teoriemi sociální evoluce a etnografií kmene Irokézů. Díky svému studiu příbuzenství byl Morgan jedním z prvních zastánců teorie o migraci původních obyvatel Ameriky z Asie v dávných dobách. Jeho sociální teorie ovlivnily pozdější levicové teoretiky a je jediným americkým sociálním myslitelem, na kterého odkazovali Charles Darwin, Karl Marx i Sigmund Freud.
