Péter Nádas (1942), maďarský prozaik, dramatik, fotograf, nositeľ viacerých národných aj medzinárodných ocenení, má už na slovenskom knižnom trhu jeden impozantný román - Knihu pamätí. Paralelné príbehy sú ešte monumentálnejšie z hľadiska rozsahu, na druhej strane však autor výrazne zjednodušil svoj štýl aj jazyk - stačí si prečítať prvé strany, ktoré pripomínajú skôr detektívku než Nádasovo sofistikované písanie. Pravda, isté veci ostali, lebo sú autorovou takpovediac "večnou" témou: telo, jeho fungovanie, vzťah inštinktov a racionality a i. Ťažko je čo len naznačiť, o čom toto rozsiahle dielo je. O dôvod viac, aby ste ho prečítali.

Velkolepý román současného maďarského autora, jehož základními tématy jsou láska a smrt. Těžiště knhy tkví v čase a prostoru autorovi osobní zkušenosti: padesátých až sedmdesátých letech dvacátého století na evropském Východě. V povídce Zahradník se autor politickému náboji vyhnul a podal v ní jímavý obraz dětského zármutku nad ztrátou matky, kdežto v bravurní próze Mínótauros předvedl Nádas svou schopnost absurdního pojetí skutečnosti.

Mnohovrstevnatý a nikterak jednoduchý příběh románu Konec jedné ságy se odehrává v několika časových i místních rovinách. Část děje prožívá asi desetiletý chlapec žijící v izolaci prominentní čtvrti padesátých let minulého století, odkázaný na společnost prarodičů a přátelství dvou dětí ze sousední vily, které stihl podobný osud. Tato dějová linie se proplétá s dědečkovým vyprávěním o historii rodiny tak, jak ji židovští prapředkové ústní tradicí sdělovali následujícím pokolením. V románu se tedy spojuje strhující vyprávění o postavách z tisícileté židovské minulosti s charakteristickými epizodami, které vystihují tísnivou atmosféru počátku komunistické diktatury, jejímž činitelem a později obětí se stal i hrdinův otec. Se složitou dějovou konstrukcí ladí také prolínání vypravěčských rovin, snu se skutečností, minulosti s románovou přítomností, která vyústí ve smrt obou prarodičů a chlapcovo umístění v ústavu, kam jsou internováni synové vysokých funkcionářů státního aparátu, kteří upadli v nemilost vládnoucí kliky. Román překvapuje sepětím dávných příběhů s plastickým zachycením jak událostí poloviny 20. století ve státech východního bloku, tak nezvykle hlubokým ponorem do psychiky dětského hrdiny.
