Carlos Matter Knihy

The line is the central focus of the work of Swiss artist Carlos Matter. This small book represents a search and at the same time a game, in which Mr. Matter approaches the very idea of line from a neutral and experimental position. What is a line? The line frees itself, the line is drawn with tape, with ties and tubes, the line is photographed, modeled into a sculpture, projected. Mirroring the approach to line, Carlos Matter searches for universal utterances. He learns from the young art historian Liz how his thoughts can be repeatedly connected in an ironic way with other topical artistic positions, or simply dissipate. These collected photos, drawings and simulations constitute an amazing appraisal of the artist s condition, presented here in this small, carefully fabricated edition.
