Based on an academic cooperation signed in 2010 between the University of Leipzig, the University of Brawijaya (Malang) and the Jakarta State University, an international and interdisciplinary Joint Summer Programme was established in 2011 under the framework “United in Diversity? Framing Diversity in Indonesia and Germany”. This book is the third annual edition to document this exchange by presenting the topics and the elaborated results of the third joint seminar in July 2013. It contains articles and essays submitted by the lecturers based on their presentations, as well as some examples of student papers. This third Joint Summer Programme was devoted to explore topics related to “Freedom, Property and Property Rights”. It provides an insight into German and Indonesian concepts and views on the trio: freedom, property and property rights. Topics such as: History of Intellectual Property in the European Context, Property as a Constitutional Legal Concept in Germany, Copyright Law in Europe, The State’s Property Right to Land, Property Right on Marine Resources, Water Privatization, Rights of Indigenous People to Land, Intellectual Property Rights on Folklore are discussed in this book.
