Whiteness and Class in Education

The author reflects on the awakening to their working-class identity and the realization of their whiteness upon entering university. Influenced by David Roediger's work, they confront the social construction of whiteness and its implications, recognizing that their societal advantages stem from systemic oppression of people of color. This introspection reveals the complexities of racial identity and privilege, challenging the notion of meritocracy and highlighting the moral dilemmas of benefiting from a system they once associated only with extreme ideologies.
