Jack Kerouac o svém díle často hovořil jako o souvislém celku tvořícím tzv. Duluozovu legendu a právě Jack Duluoz, autorovo alter ego, stojí v tomto případě přímo v názvu knihy, takže není pochyb o tom, co, nebo lépe řečeno kdo, bude hlavním tématem. Jack Duluoz své ženě, a tím pádem i čtenáři, vypráví, čím vším si musel projít v letech 1935-46. A že toho nebylo málo: před našima očima se odvíjí dobrodružný přerod ambiciózního maloměstského fotbalisty v intelektuála omámeného New Yorkem, stojíme po jeho boku na moři za druhé světové války i ve vězení při vyšetřování vraždy. To všechno má však jediné směřování - Kerouac, totiž Duluoz, je na nejlepší cestě k tomu, aby se stal kultovním autorem Beat Generation. Citlivější čtenáři možná uslyší jeho hlas, tak naléhavé je jeho překotné vyprávění, tak živý jeho jazyk. Možná se Duluoz občas chvástá, možná občas fňuká, ale nikdy, nikdy není nudný.

Rozprášené básně je sbírka spontánních básní Jacka Kerouaca. Obsahuje i dvě verze básně Pohlaď mi ho (Pull My Daisy), kterou napsal Kerouac společně s Nealem Cassadym a Allenem Ginsbergem. České vydání obsahuje jak originální verze všech básní v angličtině, tak jejich český překlad.

V roce 2010 vychází v USA dosud nevydaný text z pozůstalosti Jacka Kerouaca, jeho první rozsáhlejší dílo. Kerouac ho napsal na základě svých zkušeností ze služby u obchodního námořnictva. Vydavatelé jeho text doplnili řadou dalších materiálů - tematicky a časově souvisejícími prozaickými fragmenty a také dobovou korespondencí s přítelem Sebastianem Sampasem, básníkem, která obsahuje Kerouacovy komentáře k vlastnímu psaní a řadu dalších prozaických i básnických pokusů.

Ačkoli se Jack Kerouac proslavil především jako prozaik, psal také vynikající poezii – mnozí literární historici jsou dokonce toho názoru, že Kerouacovy básně jeho prózu co do kvality předčí. Tak či onak, je nepochybné, že jedním z vrcholů autorova básnického díla jsou jeho haiku. Kerouacův zájem o tuto japonskou básnickou formu byl hluboký a dlouhodobý; od poloviny padesátých let až do své smrti v roce 1969 si úderná trojverší zapisoval do deníků, prokládal jimi své dopisy, romány či eseje atd. Postupně přitom dospěl k vlastní podobě, tzv. „západnímu haiku“, které se nenechává omezovat přísnými formálními pravidly, ušitými na míru japonštině, přesto si z dané formy uchovává to podstatné: schopnost zachytit ve třech krátkých verších jedinečný obraz světa, „zbavený vší poetické veteše a fíglů, a přesto vzdušný a ladný jako Vivaldiho pastorála“. Kerouacova Kniha haiku, poprvé vydaná teprve po autorově smrti, přesvědčivě dokládá, že ve svém úsilí o zvládnutí zdánlivě snadné, ve skutečnosti však nesmírně obtížné formy Kerouac uspěl beze zbytku.

Písmo zlaté věčnosti bylo poprvé publikováno v roce 1960 v době, kdy Kerouac objevoval buddhistické učení. Mimo jiné i na popud svého přítele, amerického básníka Gary Snydera se dal do psaní této práce. Kniha je velice krátká a je psána formou buddhistické sútry. Česky kniha vyšla roku 1996 ve dvojjazyčném vydání (společně s angličtinou). Předtím byla dostupná pouze jako samizdat pod názvem Bible zlaté věčnosti.

Nacházíme v něm nepublikované povídky a prozaické fragmenty, publicistické texty o literatuře, o sportu, o jazzu, o beatnické generaci. Argo vydává Kerouacovy texty dlouhodobě a soustavně a spolupracuje s celou řadou předních překladatelů, a většina z nich se objevuje i v nejnovějším kerouacovském svazku. Tato antologie Kerouacových témat se tak stává i jakousi antologií překladatelských přístupů.

Dnes již klasický, ale stále inspirativní román jednoho z otců hnutí beat generation o vstupu buddhismu do amerického způsobu života. Text je kronikou pobytu ve Ferlinghettiho chatě na břehu moře, kde se Kerouac snaží o samotě vystřízlivět, sebrat se a dobrat se sama sebe. Nedokáže však uniknout opakujícím se vizím zániku a zapadá znovu do zajetých kolejí opileckého života s přáteli, kteří ho bezděky rozptylují a nedovolují mu dokončit, co si předsevzal. Mimořádně temná kniha, kterou uzavírá obraz smíření, možná více chtěného než prožitého.

Kniha, kterou v r. 1945 společně napsali dva tehdy ještě neznámí autoři, budoucí ikony beat generation. Na podkladě skutečného příběhu zabití, do něhož byli oba autoři zapleteni, se odvíjí obraz poválečného New Yorku s jeho podsvětím plného drog, posedlosti, vášní a násilí. Název knihy odkazuje na skutečnou událost požáru v cirkuse, kterou hlásili v rádiu a William jako vtip dodal, že se „hroši uvařili ve svých nádržích“.

Povídkový soubor Osamělý poutník je jakýmsi koncentrovaným výtažkem z Jacka Kerouaca. Svůj život na cestě po Spojených státech, Mexiku, Maroku i po Evropě zaznamenává v kratších a sevřenějších, „ukázněnějších" příbězích. Najdeme v nich zážitky z mexické koridy, sledované pod vlivem opia, ze samoty v zasněžených horách, z Paříže, kde je tak snadné se zamilovat, z nočního New Yorku i sluncem rozpáleného Tangeru.

Kniha amerického spisovatele Jacka Kerouaca. Je to jediná Kerouacova kniha, kde se zabývá vlastním dětstvím spojeným se smrtí jeho osmiletého bratra Gerarda. V době smrti Gerarda byly Kerouacovi čtyři roky. Bratrova smrt měla na pozdější Kerouacovu práci značný vliv.

Jack Kerouac psal svůj nejlepší román Vize Codyho v době, kdy vznikalo i jeho nejznámější dílo Na cestě. Přesto vyšel až v roce 1973, čtyři roky po jeho smrti, protože Kerouac předběhl svou dobu a jeho text byl pro nakladatele příliš „horkým zbožím“. Jedinečnost Vizí Codyho spočívá v Kerouakově rozhodnutí odhodit autocenzuru, což přináší otevřené pasáže, které v Na cestě nenajdeme. Román, věnovaný jeho příteli Nealu Cassadymu, obsahuje přepis magnetofonových nahrávek jejich rozhovorů, které mají nejen literární, ale i historický význam, osvětlující minulost beatniků jako Williama Burroughse. From the Publisher: In 1958, the first edition of Robert Frank's The Americans was published in Paris. Les Americains contained Frank's 83 photographs in the same sequence as all subsequent editions, with the image on the right hand page, but juxtaposed with historical texts about American society and politics, gathered by Alain Bosquet. The following year, in the first American edition, the French texts were removed and an introduction by Jack Kerouac was added. Over the subsequent 50 years, The Americans has been republished in many editions, in numerous languages, with a variety of cover designs and even in a range of sizes. Robert Frank discussed with his publisher, Gerhard Steidl, the idea of producing a new edition using modern scanning and the finest tritone printing. The starting point was to bring original prints from New York to Gottingen, Germany, where Steidl is based. In July 2007, Frank visited Gottingen. A new format for the book was worked out and new typography selected. A new cover was designed and Frank chose the book cloth, foil for embossing and the endpaper. Most significantly, as he has done for every edition of The Americans, Frank changed the cropping of many of the photographs, usually including more information. Queste Poesie beat coprono oltre vent'anni di esercizi poetici e rappresentano dunque una chiave di lettura preziosissima della parabola del Kerouac poeta. Le prime, le più antiche, quelle scritte insieme a Ginsberg e a Neal Cassidy, segnano un momento di grande entusiasmo: la speranza di rompere la solitudine canonica dell'artista di fronte all'opera d'arte, avvalendosi del contributo degli amici. A poco a poco, invece, Kerouac tende a ripiegarsi su se stesso, a rifugiarsi nell'ineffabile, avvicinandosi a religioni e culture che sembrano dare una risposta al suo desiderio di libertà e di autonomia.
