This collection of essays advocates for the application of diverse contemporary methods in the study of the Dead Sea Scrolls, emphasizing the need to refine some traditional critical approaches. By making complex and innovative technical discussions more accessible, the volume aims to enhance understanding and scholarship surrounding these ancient texts.
Die Vorlesungsreihe will zum einen an den Forscher Julius Wellhausen (1844-1918) erinnern, zum anderen zur Fortsetzung und öffentlichen Verbreitung der Forschungen in den von ihm repräsentierten und benachbarten philologisch- historischen Disziplinen beitragen. Julius Wellhausen forschte im Laufe seines Lebens über drei Gebiete: das Alte Testament, das Neue Testament und das alte Arabien, anders ausgedrückt: das Judentum, das Christentum und den frühen Islam. Die nach ihm benannte, jährlich stattfindende Vorlesung wird vom Centrum Orbis Orientalis et Occidentalis (CORO) veranstaltet, das gemeinsam von der Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Göttingen und der Georg-August- Universität Göttingen getragen wird.
While recent decades have seen a plethora of studies exploring the complex processes that shaped biblical books traditionally designated as Prophets, much remains to be done in order to uncover the rich history of their interpretation throughout the ages. This collection of essays aims at filling this gap by exploring different aspects of the exegesis of the Former and Latter Prophets in contexts both ancient and modern, Jewish and Christian. From the inner-biblical interpretation of the Prophets to the Dead Sea Scrolls, Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha, the New Testament, Patristic writings, and contemporary rhetoric, this volume sheds light on how key figures in those books were read and understood by both ancient and not so-ancient readers.
