Gina Lagoriová

Gina Lagorio was born in Bra, Cuneo, in 1922, and her connection to her homeland always appears clearly in her works. An only child, Lagorio graduated in English Literature from the University of Turin. She began working as an English teacher while collaborating with many newspapers, writing mainly about literature, her great passion. She began her writing career after the age of thirty. In 1969, she published "Un ciclone chiamato Titti," dedicated to her daughter. A few years later, her life was shaken by the death of her husband Gino Lagorio, a protagonist of the Resistance, to whom what is considered one of her best works is dedicated: "Approssimato per difetto" (1971). In 1974, she moved to Milan, where she embarked on a political career, fighting for women's rights. She remarried the publisher Livio Garzanti, whose publishing house published almost all her books. In 1987, she was elected to Parliament, where she entered among the Left Independents. She wrote works of fiction, essays, and plays. Among her titles are "La spiaggia del lupo" (1977), "Fuori scena" (1979), "Tosca dei gatti" (1983), "Golfo del paradiso" (1987), "Tra le mura stellate" (1991), "Il silenzio" (1993), "Il bastardo ovvero gli amori, i travagli e le lacrime di Don Emanuel di Savoia" (1996), "Inventario" (1997), "L'arcadia americana" (1999).
