Rozsáhle publikoval o ilustrovaných indických rukopisech a malířství v Indii. Jeho nejvýznamnější díla zahrnují přelomové publikace, jako je The Art of the Book in India (1982) a Calcutta: City of Palaces (1990), zatímco jeho A Picturesque Voyage: William Daniell’s Journal and the Daniells’ Vision of India má vyjít v roce 2009.
