Gerhard Tersteegen betont am Gebet neben Bitte, Fürbitte, Dank und Anbetung weitere Aspekte des Redens mit Gott, vor allem, dass Gebet ein Sein in Gottes Gegenwart ist. So spricht er vom inneren Gebet des Herzens, das mehr ein Anschauen des Herrn, ein An-ihn-Denken und ein Bewegen seiner Worte ist. Gerhard Tersteegen ruft auf: Betet viel für euch selbst und für andere! Und er hatte ein kindliches Vertrauen zum himmlischen Vater.
