Radical prayers challenge conventional "collect" prayers, offering a refreshing alternative to the often bland and predictable language found in traditional church practices. Born from the author's personal struggle, these prayers aim to invigorate both individual and communal worship, providing nourishment and inspiration for deeper spiritual engagement.
Graham Turner critiques the slow and inadequate responses to the financial crisis, emphasizing that timely and radical measures like quantitative easing were necessary but not implemented effectively. He analyzes policy errors, including the flawed market-led approach of the Obama administration and central banks' misfocus on inflation. Turner warns of impending political instability in post-Soviet states due to economic collapse and argues that understanding past mistakes is crucial to avoiding a depression worse than that of the 1930s.
Silence is a mysterious and unfathomable realm, perhaps the most under-used of all resources, and one our modern culture has all but obliterated by turning up the volume control. Graham Turner explores the power that can be found in silence through interviewing monastics, religious leaders, composers, actors, psychotherapists, prisoners and peace workers about their experiences of practising silence. Ranging from Christian contemplation in the Egyptian desert to Vipassana meditation in India, from the shared silence of Quaker meetings in Oxford to the profound stillness of the Alps, this is a powerful book about a great gap in modern human awareness.
The book presents a compelling argument that the ongoing financial turmoil reflects a significant crisis in globalization, posing a direct challenge to the established free market economic model. It explores the implications of this crisis, analyzing how it may reshape economic policies and practices worldwide. Through critical examination, the author highlights the vulnerabilities of the current system and suggests potential pathways for reform in response to these unprecedented challenges.
Graham Turner challenges common assumptions about the Old and New Testament by focusing on two central themes: personal spirituality and social justice. Through his exploration, he aims to reveal deeper insights into the scriptures, encouraging readers to reconsider their understanding of these religious texts and their relevance to contemporary issues.
That Other Voice tells the story of a journey, by Graham Turner - a senior
journalist for nearly fifty years - in search of an answer to the ultimate
spiritual mystery: whether God, or a higher power of some kind, can
communicate with us directly.

Osprey's study of Teutonic Knights from 1190 to 1561. The Military Order of Teutonic Knights was one of the three most famous Crusading Orders; the others being the Templars and the Hospitallers. Like these two, the Teutonic Knights initially focused upon the preservation of the Crusader States in the Middle East. Wielding their swords in the name of their faith, the crusading knights set out to reclaim Jerusalem. Unlike the Templars they survived the crises of identity and purpose which followed the loss of the last Crusader mainland enclaves in the late thirteenth century and, like the Hospitallers, they managed to create a new purpose - and a new field of combat - for themselves. Whereas the Hospitallers focused their energies in the eastern Mediterranean battling against Muslim armies, the Teutonic Knights shifted their efforts to the Baltic, to the so-called Northern Crusades against pagan Prussians and Lithuanians and, to a lesser extent, against Orthodox Christian Russia. As a result the Order of Teutonic Knights became a significant power, not only in the Baltic but in north-central Europe as a whole. Paradoxically, however, it was their fellow Catholic Christian Polish neighbours who became their most dangerous foes, breaking the Order's power in the mid-fifteenth century. The Teutonic Knights lingered on in what are now Estonia and Latvia for another century, but this was little more than a feeble afterglow. This title will examine this fascinating military and religious order in detail, revealing the colourful history of the crusades within Europe itself which inexorably changed the future of the continent.
