Bringing together German grammar and the Brothers’ Grimm fairy tales offers a unique approach to learning and reviewing German grammar while introducing students to the original texts of these beloved tales. GRIMMATIK combines the names of the brothers and the German word for grammar to provide a learner-oriented, research-based concept aimed at intermediate German students. It explores various grammatical elements through the analysis of selected fairy tales, allowing students to construct their own understanding of German grammar by isolating elements of speech, phrases, and sentence structures. This recognition of language patterns facilitates paradigm segmentation and classification, leading to the internalization of language rules and the development of grammatical competence. Incorporating new technology, GRIMMATIK provides tools for students to identify lexical and structural patterns using the free Grimm Corpora available online. By simplifying complex linguistic theories, it enables students with a foundational knowledge of German to discover their own structural grammar rules. Ultimately, students engage with German grammar while reading and analyzing the enchanting tales of the Brothers Grimm.
