Die Untersuchung des Verdauungssystems verschiedener Wirbeltiere wird durch den Einsatz moderner histologischer und ultrastruktureller Techniken, insbesondere mit Raster- und Transmissionselektronenmikroskopie, bereichert. Analysiert werden die Mundhöhle, der Darm und die Leber von Fischen sowie die Zunge von Vögeln. Ziel ist es, die Beziehung zwischen Struktur und Funktion dieser Organe zu beleuchten. Die Ergebnisse sind besonders wertvoll für Fachleute in der vergleichenden Anatomie, Histologie, Pathologie, Ornithologie und Meeresbiologie.
