John Leighton byl anglický umělec, který se proslavil svými ilustracemi a návrhy obálek knih. Jeho talent pro design se poprvé projevil ve spise "Suggestions in Design ... for the Use of Artists and Art Workmen" z roku 1852, kde rozebíral své hodnoty a přesvědčení týkající se historie designu. Vydavatel a sběratel umění, Leighton také podporoval sběr knižních značek a pomáhal založit Společnost Ex-Libris.
