Přičemž (autor moderního cestopisu) Jean Christophe Rufin své utkání a nakonec i splynutí s Cestou popisuje s nebývalým vtipem, švihem a elegancí …

Tato zdánlivě nevinná akce ji zavede do samého středu spiknutí, jež si ve jménu planety nebere za cíl nic menšího než samotný lidský druh. Autor Nesmrtelné túry do Compostely (Prostor 2015) se v této knize ohlíží za zákrutami vlastního života a zachycuje je se stejným vtipem, uměním zkratky a neokázalou hloubkou. Nahlédneme do pozadí fakultní medicíny i akademické politologie, humanitárních aktivit i vojenských misí OSN, nemocničního provozu i kabinetní politiky, literární branže i vrcholné diplomacie. Rufin ale nepředkládá reportáž ani autobiografii, nýbrž mozaiku výjevů a zkušeností propojených jeho sebeironií a svěžestí jeho jazyka. Svou životní cestou, která ho zcela doslova zavedla do chýší i paláců a na mnoho dalších významných i zvláštních míst, Rufin prochází tak trochu jako šibal z pikareskního románu – ovšem šibal, který současně patří mezi nejvýznamnější postavy světového humanitárního hnutí. Vážnost, kterou za jeho historkami nakonec tušíme, je o to působivější.
