Alejandro Cartagena captures the essence of Monterrey's suburbs through striking color photographs that reveal the chaos stemming from flawed urban planning. His work serves as a visual commentary on neoliberal economic policies and advocates for responsible development in an ever-evolving landscape. Based in Monterrey, Cartagena explores social, urban, and environmental issues through landscape and portraiture. His internationally exhibited work is part of several prestigious museum collections, including SFMOMA and the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago. Karen Irvine, curator and associate director at the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, has a background in International Relations and French.
