Utilizing archival materials, it delves into the political culture of the mid-1930s USSR, revealing a complex interplay between liberal, democratic ideals and illiberal, confrontational attitudes. This exploration enhances the understanding of Russian political culture during a tumultuous period, highlighting the coexistence of diverse viewpoints within society.

Olga Velikanova´s book presented here belongs to a new generation of works on Lenin, in which theoretical questions are researched with methods of historical science as using archive materials or asking survivors.
