Ingvild Goetz Knihy

Lucy McKenzie works in her native Glasgow, but also shows regularly in London, where she lured the artist Paulina Olowska from Poland for a collaborative performance called Hold the Color. The film of their performance, Oblique Composition, was later shown at the Tate Modern. In both, the artists enact what the Tate calls, "the caricatured roles of 'working women'," with McKenzie playing an artist and Olowska an architect. As McKenzie begins to draw a portrait of Olowska, she changes the scene entirely, recreating Olowska as an object and allowing the audience to watch and judge a developing work. Olowska's work has appeared at the 2003 Venice Biennale and in shows at Marc Foxx in Los Angeles and the Sculpture Center in New York; McKenzie's work has been shown at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and in solo shows at Metro Pictures, New York, and the ICA in Boston.

Die Inszenierung von weiblichen Rollenbildern ist das zentrale Thema im Werk von Cindy Sherman. Dabei bezieht sich die amerikanische Künstlerin auf Stereotypen des kollektiven Bildgedächtnisses in unserer medial geprägten Welt. In diesem perfekten Rollenspiel mit Kostümen, Masken und Prothesen, bei dem ihre eigene Identität nahezu komplett verschwindet, hinterfragt Sherman (*1954) auf dem sehr schmalen Grat zwischen Inszenierung und Parodie in ihren Fotografien Klischees und Ängste. Bekannt wurde die Künstlerin durch ihre mehrteilige Fotoserie Untitled Film Stills (1977-1980), in der sie stereotype Frauenfiguren aus fiktiven Filmszenen der 1950er-Jahre verkörpert. Ihr künstlerisches Prinzip hat sich seitdem nicht wesentlich verändert. In den später entstandenen Serien mit großformatigen Farbfotografien greift Cindy Sherman zum Beispiel Themen wie Modefotografie, Märchengestalten, Horrorszenen und Society Ladies auf. Matthew Barney works in film, video, photography, drawing, installation and sculpture, as well as sound. This catalogue, produced in collaboration with the artist, documents works from the world-famous Goetz Collection in Munich--spanning from early sculptural and performance pieces beginning in 1992 through the artist's most recent work in digital media. As in his 2003 retrospective at New York's Guggenheim Museum, Barney's Goetz Collection exhibition presents all five Cremaster films, with sound, simultaneously, thus turning the series into an installation that addresses all of the human senses.This volume contains an introductory essay by Stephan Urbaschek; a text on the use of sound in Barney's work by Brandon Stosuy; interviews with the artist and his composer, Jonathan Bepler; a text on Cremaster 1 through 5 by Domenika Szope; a summary of Drawing Restraint 9 and a glossary by Karsten Löckemann; and a select bibliography and exhibition checklist by Katharina Vossenkuhl.

Featuring interviews with and artwork by such hot young British artists as Mona Hatoum, Sam Taylor-Wood, Rachel Whiteread, Willie Doherty, Tracey Emin, Douglas Gordon, Abigail Lane, Angela Bulloch, and Sarah Lucas, "Art from the UK" documents an exhibition at the Goetz Collection in Munich. The Goetz Collection is one of the most important collections devoted solely to contemporary art, and is housed in its own small private museum, designed by renowned Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron. The works presented here exemplify the Goetz Collection's dedication to art that is innovative and challenging--from Mona Hatoum's surprising and complex mixture of media, to Rachel Whiteread's inverted spaces, to Sam Taylor-Wood's explorations of the erotic entanglements of people in closed spaces. In addition, the interviews presented in "Art from the UK" offer a tremendous insight into the changing creative processes and aesthetic philosophies of the new wave of contemporary artists.

Die Privatsammlerin Ingvild Goetz konnte über die Jahre eine Medienkunstsammlung aufbauen, die mittlerweile zu den bedeutendsten weltweit zählt. Die Publikation Fast Forward präsentiert und kommentiert eine unübertroffene Auswahl an Medienarbeiten: Videos, Videoinstallationen und Filme aller bedeutender Vertreter des Genres. Der Schwerpunkt der gezeigten Werke konzentriert sich dabei auf aktuelle Produktionen der neunziger Jahre bis heute. The multi-dimensionality of our daily experiences is reduced by the television and internet media to the surface of a flat screen. Thus reality loses more and more of its spatial qualities, even as theoretical physicists develop increasingly sophisticated models to better understand the structures of time and space. As they employ an ever-growing number of dimensions in this endeavor, the mode of our sensual reception continues to become as flat and one-dimensional as the monitors of the computers at which we work. Throughout the history of art, sculpture has been prized as one of the foremost artistic expressions in western culture, one that employs far less illusionism than, for instance, painting. The works included in Sculptural Sphere are analyzed based on their spatial parameters. Das Schweizer Künstlerduo Peter Fischli (* 1952 in Zürich) und David Weiss (* 1946 in Zürich) arbeitet seit 1979 zusammen und bedient sich bei seinen Arbeiten einer großen Bandbreite aller künstlerischen Ausdrucksformen. Die Publikation zeigt Skulpturen, Installationen, Fotografien und Filme der Künstler aus den letzten 25 Jahren. Es sind scheinbare Belanglosigkeiten und philosophische Grundfragen des menschlichen Daseins, die sie zu ihren ironisch durchtriebenen Arbeiten inspirieren. Schon in ihrem ersten gemeinsamen Werk, dem Fotozyklus Wurstserie (1980), scheint dieser Weg vorgezeichnet zu sein. Würste und Wurstscheiben werden in den abenteuerlichsten Kulissen zu Akteuren an filmreifen Sets. A private collection functions less in accordance with art historical necessities than with the taste and preferences of the collector. The Goetz Collection in Munich, which includes more than 50 works by Richard Prince, is no exception. Nevertheless, Ingvild Goetz’s particular point of view encompasses all aspects of Prince’s oeuvre, from his photographs of the late 80s through the evolution of his painterly style; more than two decades of work--culminating in Prince’s latest nurse paintings--are documented and discussed here. Created in close collaboration with the artist, this publication reveals a critical review of the works in question, contextualizing them anew with current political, social, and cultural references. Das künstlerische Werk von Andreas Slominski (* 1959 in Meppen) gehört zu den außergewöhnlichsten Beiträgen der deutschen Gegenwartskunst. Während seine Arbeiten in den frühen 1990er-Jahren noch die Dimensionen kleinerer Skulpturen hatten, wuchsen sie in den letzten Jahren häufig zu raumgreifenden Installationen aus. Von Anfang an suchte Slominski den direkten Dialog mit dem Kunstpublikum. Seine sogenannten Fallen sind absurd anmutende Köder, die sich im Zwischenbereich von Skulptur und funktionalem Objekt bewegen. In seinen Ausstellungen finden sich Fahrräder, Windmühlen und gefundene Gegenstände und Materialien, die der Alltagswelt entnommen sind. Ähnlich wie schon Duchamp bindet er Alltagsgegenstände in den Kunstkontext ein, um den Prozess der Kunstwahrnehmung sichtbar zu machen. – Die Monografie bietet einen Überblick über das Schaffen des Künstlers von 1996 bis heute.
