Tom Munz established his St. Gallen office in 2013. Since then, he has produced a number of extremely high-quality buildings that are always developed with a special interest in structural and tectonic expression. For instance Wohnhaus Holzenstein in Romanshorn is a design inspired by Modernism, thriving on the interaction between reserved, beige-stained concrete wall surfaces and wooden window elements to achieve an extremely poetic radiance. Seit 2017 führt der spanische Architekt Javier Müller ein Büro in Genf. Sein Streben nach radikaler Reduktion manifestiert sich in einer zeitlosen Architektur, die ihr soziales Potenzial voll entfaltet. Mit subtilen Eingriffen und einem sparsamen Einsatz von Mitteln erzeugt er so eine ungekünstelte Architektur, deren Form sich ganz in den Dienst der Funktion und Lebensqualität ihrer Nutzerschaft stellt. Beispielhaft für eine solche Abstraktion durch Rationalisierung ist der Umbau des Doppelhauses B in Bernex. Befreit von allem Überflüssigen, wird seine zeitlose Architektur nun ausschliesslich von Geometrie, Licht und räumlichen Proportionen bestimmt.
Das Spektrum des jungen Badener Büros Kollektiv Marudo reicht von Umbauten und Sanierungen bis zu grossen Wohnsiedlungen. Die Gründer Alexander Athanas, Ole Bühlmann und Rafael Zulauf streben durch eine integrale Betrachtung jeder Bauaufgabe eine nachhaltige Architektur an, deren innovativer Charakter nicht im Widerspruch zu Bewährtem steht. Vielmehr entfaltet sich ihre Architektur zwischen den Fixpunkten Flexibilität, Orts- und Nutzungsspezifität sowie Innovation als konsequente Weiterentwicklung bestehender Qualitäten. Beispielhaft hierfür steht der 2022 fertiggestellte Neubau der Schulanlage Brühl in Solothurn, aufgrund dessen Wettbewerbsgewinn sich das Kollektiv 2018 gründete.
Marcel Baumgartner realisiert seit 2010 in seinem Zürcher Büro Projekte in diversen Aufgaben- und Massstabsbereichen und zeichnet sich durch eine rege Teilnahme an Wettbewerben aus. 2020 stiess Claudia Loewe zu ihm, seit 2022 firmieren sie als Baumgartner Loewe Architekten. Ihre Entwurfshaltung ist geprägt von einer engagierten Auseinandersetzung mit aktuellen Bauaufgaben und einer respektvollen Haltung gegenüber dem architektonischen Bestand. So erzielten sie etwa im Falle der Erweiterung der Schulanlage Röhrliberg in Cham durch die Übernahme des historischen Rasters sowie durch ihre sorgfältige Material- und Farbwahl eine überzeugende, harmonische Synthese von Alt und Neu.
2016 gründeten Véronique Favre und Tanya Zein in Genf das Büro FAZ architectes. Ihre vielseitigen Projekte sind stets auf den Kontext bezogen und auf Nachhaltigkeit angelegt. In diesem Sinne spielt auch die atmosphärische Poesie der Details eine tragende Rolle: Materialien, Texturen – alles darf, soll die Spuren der Zeit tragen, Patina ansetzen: so etwa die Fassaden der Primarschulerweiterung in Riaz; oder die Neugestaltung des Botanischen Alpengartens in Meyrin. Hier griffen sie das umfangreiche Grundvokabular, das durch die physischen und emotionalen Qualitäten des Genius Loci bereitgestellt wurde, auf und erweckten diesen Ort mit alt-neuen Materialien, Farben, Texturen und Düften wieder zum Leben.
Darlington Meier Architekten bewegen sich souverän auf diversen Massstabsebenen - von Wohnbauten bis zu städtebaulichen Interventionen. Ein Gespür für die Wirkung klassischer Gestaltungsmittel und den stimmigen Einsatz von Materialien zeichnet die Entwürfe des Zürcher Büros ebenso aus wie ihr Bestreben, Orte mit spezifischer Identität zu kreieren. Das ist nicht zuletzt auf den Einfluss Peter Zumthors zurückzuführen, in dessen Büro Stephan Meier und Mark Darlington als Projektleiter arbeiteten, bevor sie sich 2004 selbstständig machten. Das von ihnen realisierte Mathilde Escher Heim für körperbehinderte Erwachsene in Zürich ist etwa eine bespielhaft selbstbewusste städtebauliche Setzung, die zugleich eine wohnliche Atmosphäre zu verbieten vermag.
Im Vordergrund steht bei Soppelsa Architekten das Verhältnis von Raum – seiner Beschaffenheit, Materialisierung, Proportionen und Lichtführung – und Programm. Bereits in den ersten Jahren nach Bürogründung 2012 konnten die Brüder Mario und Nino Soppelsa mit diesem Vorgehen einige Wettbewerbserfolge verzeichnen. Mit dem Zweifamilienhaus in Esslingen war 2015 dann ihr erstes Projekt realisiert. Ihr Schaffen beschränkt sich aber nicht auf Wohnbauten, sondern erstreckt sich erfolgreich auf allen Massstabsebenen: Für die Wohnsiedlung Hagmannareal Winterthur-Seen wurden sie mehrfach ausgezeichnet und jüngst für den Neubau der Doppelsporthalle Oberrüti als Best Architects 2023 gekürt.
AllesWirdGut mit Sitz in Wien und München wurde 1999 von Andreas Marth, Friedrich Passler, Herwig Spiegl und Christian Waldner gegründet. Der Name ist Programm: Neben einer hohen Wohnqualität, die sich durch ein grosses Mass an Flexibilität und Anpassbarkeit an sich wandelnde Lebensumstände auszeichnet, liegt der Fokus des international tätigen Büros vor allem auf sozialem Mehrwert. Dies manifestiert sich etwa im Falle des viel beachtete Sozialprojekts magdas Hotel, einem Begegnungsort in Wien. Zu den bekanntesten der mittlerweile mehr als 70 realisierten Bauten zählen der Schulcampus Hanhoopsfeld in Hamburg und der 2021 fertiggestellte Bruckner Tower in Linz.
Über ein humanmedizinisches Studium fand Guillaume Yersin zum Masterabschluss der Architektur an der ETH Zürich. 2012 gründete er sein eigenes Büro SAAS in Genf und realisierte seither einige kleinere, erlesene Bauten, die von einem aussergewöhnlichen Gefühl für Konstruktion zeugen: so etwa eine Beobachtungsplattform über der Rhone in Bernex, die − in Holz konstruiert − architektonische Themen wie Tragen, Lasten und Fügen pointiert zum Ausdruck bringt. After studying human medicine, Guillaume Yersin earned a Master's degree in architecture at ETH Zurich. In 2012, he founded his own office, SAAS, in Geneva and has since realised several smaller, exquisite buildings that bear witness to an exceptional sense of construction: for example, an observation platform over the Rhone in Bernex, which - constructed in wood - pointedly expresses architectural themes such as supporting, bearing and joining.

A series of residential buildings and four school buildings have been created by Basel architects Oliver Brandenberger and Adrian Kloter since 2011. They are all characterised by a virtuoso interplay of raw and finely crafted materials. The renovations are also characterised by a subtle merging of old and new. The most recent examples are the kindergarten and the school in Birrwil: here, concrete and wood were combined seemingly without hesitation, resulting in a harmonious, poetic expression.
Benedikt Rigling, René Bosshard und Matthias Baumann sind die Gründer des Büros Masswerk Architekten, das seit 2003 in Luzern und seit 2008 in Zürich ansässig ist. Das 2021 fertiggestellte Sekundarstufenzentrum Burghalde in Baden bietet in einer historischen Parkanlage mit geschützter Bausubstanz Platz für 1.000 Schülerinnen und Schüler.
Seit 2013 führen Patrick Jaeger und Ariel Koechlin in Basel ihr Architekturbüro. Hier sind ein kleines Schulgebäude in Holz von heiterer, warmer Anmutung, mehrere Wohnbauten und einige Umbauten entstanden: zum Beispiel das Wohnhaus Grünhagweg in Liestal, bei dem im Äusseren das gewöhnliche Formenrepertoire eines Wohnhauses überhöht und nobilitiert wird; oder das Wohnhaus Lysbüchel in Basel, das von roher Erscheinung ist und dessen Grundrisse experimentelle Variabilitäten zulassen. Patrick Jaeger and Ariel Koechlin have been leading their architectural practice in Basel since 2013. Here they have created a small school building in wood with a cheerful, warm appearance, several residential buildings and a number of conversions: for example, the Grünhagweg residential building in Liestal, in which the usual repertoire of forms of a residential building exterior is exaggerated and ennobled; or the Lysbüchel residential building in Basel, which has a raw appearance and whose floor plans allow for experimental variability.
Seit über 30 Jahren führt Carlos Martinez in Berneck sein Architekturbüro. Seine Konstruktion in Holz und Beton wirkt kraftvoll, virtuos und narrativ. Now based in Lugano, Jachen Könz originally stems from Ardez in the Engadin region. One of his most important projects was built in Zuoz: the Mariöl housing development. The sculptural concrete building has window apertures and excavations that appear as if incised with a scalpel. In 2015, a volume in the Anthologie series was published on the buildings by this Lucerne architect, who is originally from the Upper Valais region. Since then, many further projects and an impressive number of new buildings have followed. They all demonstrate a respectful, gentle further development of the settlements and locations. The Kronengasse building in Sempach is exemplary: in it, the architect seeks a connection between traditional anonymous construction and a sophisticated finesse in designing the building.

Johannes Kister, Reinhard Scheithauer (until 2020) and Susanne Gross have been running their offices in Cologne since 1992 and Leipzig since 2007, as well as recently opening a Berlin branch. The three protagonists have produced remarkable, inspiring buildings, including the major, sculptural facility of the University of Applied Sciences Bremerhaven (2005), which impresses with its solid, haptic materiality. The meticulously, carefully and solidly developed work by the London architects Daniel Rosbottom and David Howarth has continuously grown since 2000. Recent important buildings include the concert hall in Bodø (Norway), which has an outstandingly elegant and festive character, and the housing for the elderly in Aarschot, Belgium, which is intelligently integrated into the small-town structure.
For over 20 years, an extremely lively and outstanding architectural scene has been thriving in South Tyrol. Gerd Bergmeister and Michaela Wolf have been one of its main protagonists from the very beginning. Their buildings are surprising, imaginative solutions that sound out the entire spectrum of architecture: the formation of space, shaping, construction, materialization and integration into the Alpine context. In 1996, François Jolliet, Antoine Hahne et Guy Nicollier founded their office Pont12. In 2013, Christiane von Roten, Cyril Michod and Norbert Seara, associate partners, joined the management. A large proportion of their contracts are the result of competition successes. Nomos is an association of architects based in Geneva, Lisbon and Madrid. They collaborate on projects of all scales, from furniture to master plans, with a special focus on the cultural context and the environment. Primarily using drawing to shape their ideas, they explore new ways of creating community through buildings that seek to transform constraints into opportunities. Since 2002, Christian Dupraz has managed his own office in Geneva. Over the years, he has produced a dozen buildings, including abstract, sculptural residential architecture such as the “House for an Art Collector” in Geneva (2010) and the seemingly minimalist holiday home in Les Posses-sur-Bex (2015). In 2000, a group of architects founded their office in Geneva - group8. Since then - partly with changing personnel - they have continuously produced buildings in the Geneva-Lausanne region, often with experimental qualities. They include the 2018 GA building for the EPF Lausanne, and the CI residential tower in Meyrin, with an integrated private clinic. Projects by Stefano Tibiletti and Catherine Glaeser-Tibiletti are clear architectural responses to the location and its urban morphology, translated into forms of typology and construction. A young architectural scene is developing in Milan, including Onsitestudio with its protagonists Giancarlo Floridi and Angelo Lunati. Their buildings are characterized by a strong integrative force, making them a valuable, coherent part of Milan's metropolitan fabric. The Zurich architects Annette Spillmann and Harald Echsle became renowned in 2006 with their container tower for the FREITAG bag and fashion label in Zurich. It represents 'architecture without architects' while also being a nonchalant solution for a common architectural programme in the midst of an inhospitable residual zone. Jonas Staehelin and Stephan Meyer are among a promising young generation of architects in Basel. Their conversions and housing have their own hallmark, an outstanding sense of exciting interior spaces and a high degree of precision in formulating details. Olaf Hunger, Nicolas Monnerat and Franck Petitpierre are the protagonists of the Lausanne office MPH. The architects have produced a significant oeuvre since 1997, mainly consisting of large housing developments, individual homes and renovation projects on historical buildings that impress through their structural clarity, coherent material choices and pronounced tectonics. Nach dem Studium an der Accademia di Architettura in Mendrisio und verschiedenen Praktika gründete Andreas Heierle 2012 das Atelier für Architektur in Luzern. Seither sind einige architektonische Präziosen entstanden, so u. a. ein kleines elegantes Wohnhaus mit drei Höfen in Rumänien oder ein Schulhaus in der Gemeinde Crissier im Kanton Waadt, das wie selbstverständlich in die Landschaft eingeschrieben ist.
In 2016, Dario Franchini and Diego Calderon founded two offices, one in Lugano and one in London. Since then, they have completed a number of small conversions and buildings with an experimental character. For the Palazzo del Cinema in Locarno, they carried out a relatively large conversion project including heightening measures. The new agricultural school in Salez, in the St. Gallen Rhine valley region, has a slender, airy and light appearance. It is an extremely intelligently conceived low-tech construction made of timber. The design is by Andy Senn, who has led his architectural office in St. Gallen since 1998 and has produced an extraordinary, homogeneous oeuvre in the last 20 years. Text in English and German.
The two Bern architects Bernhard Aebi and Pascal Vincent have designed an impressive portfolio of works since 1996, including renovations of historical buildings such as the Bundeshaus in Bern, but also many residential and administrative buildings, mostly following competition successes and always achieving great architectural qualities. Since 1989, the Winterthur architect Beat Rothen has continuously extended and independently developed his exciting work although he is often overlooked today. While his earlier works were mainly residential buildings and estates, his most recent projects include administrative buildings with an architectural language that reveals a heightened forcefulness and consistency.Text in English and German.
In the 90s a group of architects formed in London that moved towards a matter-of-fact, unspectacular architecture inspired by the location. A key work and model in this style was Tony Fretton's Lisson Gallery from 1992 with its unembellished facade and strong lines, constructed virtually "without details" and integrated into the row of buildings. Das Architektenpaar Vincent Rapin und Maria Saiz in Vevey transportieren ihre Erfahrungen aus der internationalen Architekturszene in die Tonart regionaler Siedlungen. Mit ihren minutiös und sachlich gestalteten Eingriffen gelingt es ihnen, das scheinbar Alltägliche des Gebäudes angemessen zu nobilitieren. Beim jüngst fertiggestellten Schulhaus in Marsens ergänzt der Solitär perfekt die rurale Streusiedlung und demonstriert, was Architektur zu leisten vermag, wenn sie die dörfliche Struktur angemessen vervollständigt und zu einem klangvollen Ganzen veredelt.
In den letzten Jahren ist aus den Händen von Geneviève Bonnard und Denis Woeffray im Unterwallis und in der Waadt ein konzises Werk entstanden, deren einzelne Stationen je in sich überzeugende architektonische Lösungen darstellen, die überraschen und die Grenzen der Architektur ausloten. Das Architektenpaar ist 2001 mit den zwei eigenwilligen Primarschulen in Bouveret und Fully bekannt geworden. Seither sind Wohnbauten und zwei weitere Schulgebäude entstanden. Mit jedem Bauprojekt reagieren sie klug, konsequent und vertieft auf die oft extremen Bedingungen einer Bauaufgabe. Wo die zulässigen Baukosten minimiert sind, wie beim Schulhaus für soziale Arbeit (EESP) in Lausanne, entwickeln sie ein erstaunliches architektonisches Potenzial aus 'armen' und 'rohen' Materialien und entwerfen dazu rüde und höchst funktionelle Details. Dort wo enge und einschneidende Bauvorschriften vorgegeben sind, suchen sie daraus ein grösstmögliches Mass von architektonischem Ausdruck zu entfalten. Die Publikation stellt sechs realisierte Bauten der beiden 44- und 46-jährigen Architekten umfassend dar.
