Dylan Thomas (1914–1953) vytvořil za svůj krátký život jedinečné dílo, které náleží ke klenotům anglicky psané poezie. Z anglických originálů jeho básní, úryvků z korespondence a citátů vybral, sestavil a přeložil a doprovodný esej napsal překladatel Pavel Šrut, který svazek doprovodil doslovem a životopisným pásmem.

Druhý výbor z básní Dylana Thomase pořízený Jiřinou Haukovou, rozšířený a přepracovaný, s doslovem překladatelky. Sbírka veršů předčasně zemřelého anglického básníka složité, často víc rozumem než citem nesené obraznosti, která čtenáře unáší, ale i nutí prodírat se slovya představami k postižení myšlenkového jádra básně.

Burleskní Příhody při shazování kůží, podle nichž je nazván celý tento soubor autorových próz, jsou tvořeny úvodními kapitolami zamýšlené novely, na které Thomas pracoval především v květnu a červnu 1941; dochovaný fragment líčí vzdorný odjezd Sama Benneta z provinčního maloměsta do Londýna, „města horlivých mrtvol“, kde mladík prochází absurdní iniciací. Druhou část svazku tvoří krátké, vysoce básnické prózy z rozmezí let 1933–1939. Texty spojuje autorova divoká imaginace a symboly zatížený styl, dotýkají se mystéria smrti a zrození člověka, děj místy ustupuje magičnosti výrazu a sexuální obsese se snoubí s náboženskými obrazy. Srážející se shluky představ vytvářejí čarovně znepokojivou krásu. Legendární velšský básník Dylan Thomas (1914–1953) patří k největším lyrikům 20. století. Z jeho básnického díla vyšly výbory v překladech Jiřiny Haukové a Pavla Šruta, povídkový soubor Portrét umělce jako štěněte (1940) přeložil Petr Pujman, rozhlasovou hru Pod mléčným lesem (1953) Antonín Přidal a drobnou vzpomínku Vánoce jednoho kluka z Walesu (1945) Petr Eliáš. Vydáním Příhod při shazování kůží získává český čtenář Thomasovo literární dílo víceméně v úplnosti.

Povídku o Vánocích napsal velšský básník Dylan Thomas ještě před koncem druhé světové války, ale vydána nakonec byla po větších i menších peripetiích a změnách až v roce 1954. Od té doby se ale toto drobné dílo stalo vánoční klasikou v mnoha zemích. V českém překladu vychází poprvé knižně a čtenáři malí i velcí se budou moci ponořit do vánoční atmosféry plné naducaného sněhu, sladkých dobrot a také dárků, méně či více praktických a méně či více chtěných.

Hlavním námětem povídek souboru Portrét umělce jako štěněte (1940) velšského básníka, novináře a prozaika píšícího anglicky je autorova nostalgická touha po ztraceném dětství, po uplynulé době nevinně šťastného a bezstarostného mládí, ale i bolestného dospívání. Vystupují v nich svérázné postavy Thomasova rodného kraje a především sám autor a jeho kamarádi, kteří dychtivě odhalují tajemství světa dospělých a nakonec narážejí na přitažlivost a odpudivost neřesti a smrti.
