The local knowledge system for plant protection and soil conservation in rain-fed agriculture in the West Bank, Palestine

Agriculture in the West Bank, Palestine lost very much of its former importance and is endangered. Land and water resources are permanently menaced by confiscation through the Israeli Authorities. And young people look for better education and employment outside agriculture. With this development the respective local knowledge, especially about rain-fed agriculture is endangered as well. Quite a reason to assess and to document it, especially because rain-fed agriculture is the most sustainable option for the future, in an increasing struggle about water resources in the region. This book gives a broad overview on agricultural knowledge, practice and tradition in rain fed agriculture in the West Bank, including a glossary of local agricultural terms and an appendix with a large collection of farmer’s customs, sayings and proverbs.
