AuszugAfter the crisis of the last years statistics again show rising production rates for most of the common metals all over the world. Nevertheless, steel production is still driven by Chinese and Asian economy. With this, especially the zinc consumption as well as the one of other metals increases. Furthermore Asian specialists expecting a significant change in the raw materials supply. High amounts of scrap, partly coated with zinc resulting from the increased production of the last decade will change the role of secondary raw materials in the Asian market within the next ten years. The history of the recent years has shown that secondary resources will become more and more important in the future for Europe and Northern America. Residues from metallurgical industry are no longer wastes which have to be dumped more over they steadily move to valuable secondary resources. With this, especially dusts from steel industry as well as other zinc-iron-bearing materials will move into the centre of interest. To make use of these materials, an understanding of formation mechanisms, morphologies, possible metallurgical methods, coating procedures and the requirements of the recycling processes, is es-sential for the development of economical as well as ecological treatment routes. The 3rd international conference for networking between zinc and steel industry should again act as a platform of information exchange, communication and the chance for new cooperation between zinc and steel industry.
