This analysis explores the violent enforcement of neoliberal governmentality and its connection to the rise of a new political and cultural Right characterized by authoritarianism, ethnocentric nationalism, racism, misogyny, and antifeminism, all intertwined with neoliberal economic principles. Critical thinkers have identified this post-2008 crisis phase as a fascist moment of neoliberalism, where far-Right movements and parties not only gain political representation but also influence contemporary political agendas. However, this pivotal moment requires more precise analytical tools. The work aims to understand the emergence of the New Right and punitive neoliberalism as responses not only to a crisis of accumulation but also as products of neoliberal reasoning and its historical alliance with conservative and reactionary political forces. It argues against viewing this moment as exceptional, instead tracing the roots of punitive neoliberalism to its theoretical foundations and the violence embedded in neoliberal capitalism, particularly against racialized, colonized, gendered, and precarized populations unable to conform to competitiveness norms. Ultimately, this analysis seeks to enhance our understanding of current challenges as a vital step toward envisioning alternative futures.
