The tolerance of NU

To understand Indonesia as the most Islamic population country in the world is not complete yet without to read NU as the biggest Islamic organization. Its wisdom to adapt with a variety of sects and organizations and even with the government creates al-tasamuh (tolerant) character of its followers. It is not amazing, if in once chance of Muktamar (conference), al-tasamuh adopted as one of the foundations which must be the spirit of the organization. To know how far this tolerant character exists, could be viewed through its long history from the NU founded to the present time. How ever, this history noted that NU came to the peak story when the time of the leadership of Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur: 1984-1999). Many important events happened in this era in connection with the tolerance. The book being on the reader’s hand attempts to explore the NU tolerance vis a vis the government’s policies on Islamic affairs deeply throughout the story being more focused on the Wahid’s era.
