On one of the first public days, John Aubrey arrives, claiming to be Lady Fowling's grandson, which scandalizes Mrs. Woolgar and infuriates Charles Henry, who feels cheated out of his inheritance. While Hayley is skeptical of John's claims, he possesses intimate knowledge of Lady Fowling's life and writings. Complicating matters further, an associate of John, who intends to help uncover the truth, is murdered, and the police suspect Charles Henry. Although Hayley wishes to see him locked away, she cannot believe he is a killer. Determined to unravel the mystery, she knows she must explore Lady Fowling's past to identify the true villain behind the unfolding drama.
