What's She Like

Více o knize

Helen O'Hara decided to become a violinist at nine, viewing her violin as a badge of honour. Raised on a blend of classical and pop music, pop ultimately captured her heart. A prodigious talent, she advanced through youth orchestras but rebelled at seventeen, leaving school to join a progressive rock band. By twenty-one, she returned to college for classical violin and was soon headhunted by Dexys Midnight Runners. Choosing them over the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, she found herself in the spotlight when 'Come On Eileen' topped the UK charts. The narrative captures the exhilarating experience of recording and touring the album Too-Rye-Ay, alongside the tumultuous creation of Dexys' masterpiece, Don't Stand Me Down. After the band's disbandment in 1986, Helen collaborated with Tanita Tikaram and produced two solo instrumental albums featuring pianist Nicky Hopkins before taking a 23-year hiatus to raise her family. Once her sons were grown, she felt compelled to return to music, reigniting her passion and fulfilling the commitment she made at nine. In her own words, she addresses the question posed in the lead song on Don't Stand Me Down, revealing her true self. Helen O'Hara is not just a gifted musician; she is an absolute genius, marked by natural talent, dedication, and a willingness to innovate.
